This very well-attended half-day civil conference had for its theme the purchase and management of family property. Chambers was delighted to offer it free of charge and the event carried 3 CPD hours.
As with last year’s civil conference in Oxford, the afternoon was chaired by Roger Evans, who also gave a lecture on proprietary estoppel. In addition, Benedict Sefi spoke on testamentary capacity, Rowena Meager on trusts of the family home from a chancery perspective, and Mark Higgins on solicitors’ negligence, mortgages and the law in Barclays bank v. O’Brien.
As with all our conferences this year, the talks were supplemented by a comprehensive delegate pack. Included was Chambers’ civil brochure that profiles the elite civil group and we encourage those interested to request a copy of this brochure.
Afternoon tea, a chance to talk to the contributors more informally and to make the most of a venue just right for Christmas provided a perfect end to the conference. The event was very well-received by attendees and the civil group were delighted to see so many in attendance.
The Christmas Lectures brought to an end our programme of seminars and events for 2009 – a year which has seen our keynote family law Conference in the summer and Civil Law conference in the winter supplemented by a range of shorter family law seminars on topics of particular importance. We have also been proud to continue our association with Oxfordshire and Reading Local Authorities in providing training courses for social workers.
We at Harcourt Chambers take this opportunity to wish you a merry Christmas and a prosperous 2010. We look forward to seeing you at our CPD-accreddited seminars and events in the new year.
